The Label:
Spawned from the post-handicraft movement, 'Made In Shoreditch Somewhere' is an accessories label that fuses craft techniques with luxury fabrics and trims. The label is very much influenced by UK indie fashion and London's Shoreditch/Hoxton music scene, where decadance is often mixed with trashy.
The designer's love of all things unique, sparkly, and colourful brings forth a label that joins girly with punk, cute with glamour, embellished with simplicity.
A 'Made In Shoreditch Somewhere' item should be a conversation piece in its own right, where emphasis is placed on quality and detailed handiwork. Overall, MISS is sweet, sophisticated, and feminine but with a small element of kitsch and rockin' style mixed in.
Unique fashion and individual products are always in demand and this label tries to meet that demand. The label is created
in the heart of the Shoreditch area of London, as the name of the label suggests, and is completely handcrafted by the designer, Jennie.
The Product:
Here's some info and a few pointers to keep your MISS accessory in tip-top shape.
- All items are hand made with an emphasis on quality.
- Wristcuffs are one-size-fits-most, fully lined and stiffened, never flimsy with a hand sewn press-stud closure.
- Wristcuffs can be worn on either wrist, but is suggested to be worn on the right with the charms facing the wearer.
- Headbands are hand-bound in satin and intended to be worn with the motif on the left hand side.
- The headbands look great paired with a big hairstyle or worn with a high messy ponytail for a dramatic look.
- Since accessories are fabric-based they can be spot cleaned by hand with mild soap and warm water. Lie flat to dry. Do not soak as this may damage trims.
- Beaded items can snag so take care when wearing them.
- Trims are sourced mainly in London, New York, and Hong Kong and vary from item to item. They include vintage charms and beads, Swarovski crystals, and chains (some of which are hand-linked by the designer).
The Designer:
I moved to London in September of 2001 from New York City. Originally from Brooklyn, I was quite
happy living in my bubble up until I reached 20, when I felt that if I didn't do something to
drastically change my life, I would go insane with boredom. I had been studying fashion design since
I was 14 and was completely burnt out. Taking a passing conversation with a fellow student a bit too
seriously, I applied at the London College of Fashion (with hopes to finish my BA degree there) and when
I got accepted, I was more than ready to start my life over.
Having not lost all of my American roots since arriving in the UK, I still speak with my New York accent (but with a slight British twang I've been told). I really love going to small gigs and listening to music loud. I adore horror films, Alternative Press magazine, and white shoes.
